UNC loses star freshman for the year

For UNC the dream of a national championship just got immensely more difficult. Standout freshman Caleb Wilson will miss the remainder of this basketball season after breaking his right thumb during a non contact drill in practice. The school announced this happened while Wilson was dunking a ball during practice. According to sources he has already had surgery and should be cleared in time for the upcoming NBA draft, where he is projected to be one of the first names called.

Wilson had missed the previous 6 games for UNC after injuring his non shooting hand in a game against Miami. According to coach Hubert Davis he was “progressing” towards a return to play until this recent injury. Without Wilson UNC has gone 5-1, and are set to take on Duke in the regular season finale. Regardless of that outcome UNC is locked in as a 4 seed in the ACC tournament.

UNC will certainly have a hard time making a deep tournament run without Wilson. However they’ve held their own in his absence and should still be a lock to receive an at-large bid should they lose in the ACC playoffs. As for Caleb Wilson, expectations are that he will enter the draft after this season, but in today’s college sporting world you truly never know.
