One of the greatest Sporting events in the world is fast approaching with just a little over 4 months left people are in anticipation of who will be the next world champion. The world cup being hosted here right now at this time is not ideal for a lot of fans and teams as well. With the current war underway with the middle east and Iran (one of the teams that qualified for the World Cup) many are wondering, should they still come? Iran, one of 48 teams in the tournament, is scheduled to play in Inglewood, California, against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 before finishing group play in Seattle against Egypt on June 26.

On Thursday Trump wrote in a social media post without elaborating “The Iran National Soccer Team is welcome to The World Cup, but I really don’t believe it is appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety,” The Instagram account for the Iranian national team quickly responded to Trump’s remarks, questioning whether the US president should be commenting on team participation. “The World Cup is a historic and international event, and its governing body is FIFA — not any individual country,”
I personally think that they should come, this team qualified and are going to make incredible futbol moments. Iran has been slandered in many ways politically in the US since June. One being subject to a travel ban into the U.S. as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. But athletes and coaches from the target nations are exempt, which means the Iranian team would be allowed to enter the U.S. Now with this war its another obstacle in the way of their success.
I hate seeing this game especially the world cup tarnished because of incidents like these. Every team should play we should come together and enjoy this tournament. Iran gracing its presence is up in the air. The president says “enter at your own risk” while the IR and other nations say “this should not stop them”. So I ask you the reader do you think Iran should stay out of the tournament or should they still continue to play this summer?
