The upcoming World Cup in the United States is going to bring huge crowds to the country, as it is one of the biggest events in the world taking place on America soil, so one thing that could be a concern is safety. FIFA has been in close talks with the American government, and has said that host cities and venues could be changed if safety becomes an issue.
President Donald Trump said that FIFA President Gianni Infantino would “very easily” move matches if this was the case, and the U.S. asked them to.
This is brought to light after the president previously said that he would think to move games out of what he said were dangerous cities, and gave examples including San Francisco and Seattle. Since FIFA has said that safety at an event this large is a top priority for the organization, they would work alongside the American government if it became an issue.
“We hope every one of our 16 host cities will be ready to successfully host and fulfil all necessary requirements,” said a FIFA Spokesperson.
Both President Trump and FIFA President Infantino has struck up a close relationship, as they attended a peace summit together in the Middle East.
While this has been brought up, FIFA does believe their is no issues with any of the host sites across the 16 countries.
President Trump has also said that he would like to move the 2028 LA Olympic Games if he saw that it was an unsafe environment when the event rolls around.
As of right now, there have been no changes to either, and everything is going according to plan.
