End of the John Cena Era

December 13th marked the end of one of wrestling’s biggest figures and Icons, John Cena. Making his debut in 2001 and spanning over 2 decades in the WWE, John Cena became a household name. From becoming world Champion 17 different times, the most in Company history, to his signature “You Cant See Me” catchphrase and entrance music. If it wasn’t wrestling it was acting but one way or another you knew who this man was.

Although his final match didn’t end the way how some would have wanted John gave it his all in one last performance for the fans watching in DC and around the world. The 48-year-old hit multiple Five Knuckle Shuffles and Attitude Adjustments, including one through a table and one off the top rope. He tapped out on his own terms against Gunter who oddly enough did the same to WCW legend, Goldberg at one of Saturday nights main events using the same submission. Gunters triumph over Cena, will live far longer in the memory and may well go down as one of the most controversial booking decisions in professional wrestling history. It might be a time-honored tradition for Superstars to lose the final bout of their careers, but fans were far from ready to see Cena demolished on his last night in the ring.

Regardless of how it ended John Cena’s name, legacy, presence and career will go down as one of the greatest in WWE history and be surely missed.
