Brooks Koepka will not return to LIV Golf in 2026

Five-time major winner Brooks Koepka will not compete in LIV Golf after the 2025 season, the league confirmed Tuesday, marking the end of his three-year run with the Saudi-backed circuit.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said the decision was made jointly, noting Koepka’s desire to spend more time with his family and limit travel. Talor Gooch will take over as captain of Smash GC beginning next season.

Koepka, 35, joined LIV Golf in 2022 after signing a deal reported to be worth more than $100 million. During his time with the league, he became its first player to win five individual tournaments, most recently at The Greenbrier in August of 2024. However, his performance declined this past season, as he finished 31st in the individual standings and failed to post a top-15 result in his final eight competitions.

Away from LIV, Koepka struggled in the majors, missing the cut in three out of the four events this year. His best finish was a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open. He showed signs of improvement later in the year on the DP World Tour with a fourth-place finish at the Open de France and a top-15 result at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Koepka’s management team emphasized that family considerations were the most crucial part of the decision. His wife, Jena, announced earlier this fall that she had suffered a miscarriage. The couple also has a two-year-old son.

Koepka’s future remains uncertain. If he seeks a return to the PGA Tour, he would be required to reapply for membership and undergo a reinstatement process. The Tour has not publicly outlined how long that process could take. Regardless of Tour status and his decision to part ways with LIV Golf, Koepka remains eligible to compete in all four major championships due to his victory at the 2023 PGA Championship.

LIV Golf thanked Koepka for his contributions to the league, while Gooch praised him as a competitor and teammate, calling his influence on Smash GC significant.
