Happy new year to all but Enzo Maresca who just hours after ringing in the new year has been sacked by Chelsea just after 18 months in charge of the team. The two part ways after breakdown relations with the club and a run of poor results. In the last seven games for Chelsea they have only won one match. They are currently in 5th place and 15 points behind the leaders of the Premier league at this time, Arsenal.

Maresca’s exit means Chelsea are looking for a fourth permanent managerial appointment since American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital bought the club in May 2022.

A few prospects are Francseco Farioli the current manager of FC Porto.

Xavi Hernandez Barcelona’s former manager before Flick stepped in. Xavi helped his former club, Barcelona, through a difficult financial period and won the league. A big name that would attract excitement and he is out of work.

There are more prospects for Chelsea to choose from to take over as manager but the question remains will they be the change Chelsea needs? Maresca departs having won the Club World Cup and the Conference League. Chelsea expect to announce a new head coach in a matter of days.
