The Olympic hockey rosters were released over the last few days and while many players were expected to be there, there were a lot of surprises too. Many players that people thought were staples on the US team ended up not being selected for a spot on the team. Among these, I think team US had three of the biggest snubs of the entire tournament. These are Adam Fox, Cole Caulfield, Jason Robertson.
Adam Fox, who many were low on after his lackluster performance in the four nations tournament, was one of the most controversial snubs of the whole tournament. Many believe that his excellent defensive play on an underwhelming Rangers team and his notorious status as a top 5 defenseman in the league should have solidified his status on the team, but the US team had a different opinion.
Cole Caulfield, who is a point per game this season and has been snubbed from many US teams in the past, should have had his opportunity this year, but was left off the roster yet again. Cole’s play through his career on a rebuilding Montreal team has been stellar and many, including myself, believe that Caulfield should have been an easy choice for this team.
The last is Jason Robertson. Roberston, who has 48 points in 41 games at the moment is having one of his best seasons yet. He has been a consistently excellent forward for Dallas and is a young star in the league. Leaving him off of team US is slightly baffling as he has outperformed many of the picks in his career and would be a very solid addition to this team.
Those are my 3 biggest snubs from Team US. Who else do you think was snubbed from the tournament and do you agree with my picks?
