The four time all star has been traded from Atlanta to Washington after 7 years with the team. In return Washington sent over CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert… they really broke the bank for this one. At first glance it seems pretty easy to tell who won this trade, and it’s still just as easy after a couple more glances.

Washington Wizards: A

The only reason this doesn’t get an A+ is because Young does have a player option after next season and could leave town quickly if both sides can’t work out an extension. But as far as bang for your buck, it doesn’t get much better. Washington absolutely robbed Atlanta in this deal, and they didn’t need to use a single draft pick to do so. Washington now has a legitimate all star to lean on in close games, and Trae Young gets a fresh start in his preferred destination.

Atlanta Hawks C-

I get trading away Trae Young, I do. The team performed better while he was out, and the emergence of Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker led them to want to build around their talents. But seriously this return is awful. CJ McCollum might give you 15-18 a night, but he’s well past his prime. Corey Kispert could be a fun development, but in year 5 without much growth I don’t expect much. The fact that Atlanta couldn’t even get a single first round pick for a player averaging 25 and 10 for their career is just sad. Atlanta got absolutely fleeced in this deal.
