Arsenal, Manchester City both on Quadruple Watch

It’s unprecedented territory, really. Two teams in history have won a treble that included the Premier League and the Champions League, being the 98/99 Manchester United team and the 22/23 Manchester City team, and now we are talking about quadruples…

In the Premier League, the Gunners and the Cityzens both lead the way, four points apart, and three points above Aston Villa with 12 games remaining in the season. Both teams have dropped unfortunate points throughout the seasons to teams they shouldn’t have, but at the same time, they are both chasing titles in four different competitions.

Then, when it comes to the Champions League, both teams advanced to the playoffs, with Arsenal being first and City being eighth. As they await who they will play in the round of 16, they will be trying to do what they need to in other competitions and feeling the pressure of what comes with it. The Gunners will either play the winner of Dortmund and Atalanta or Olympiacos and Leverkusen, whereas the Sky Blues will play the winner of Bodo/Glimt and Inter or Benfica and Real Madrid. These and the Prem are both the two main goals for both clubs, obviously.

Next, there is the FA Cup, which is entering the fifth round. Arsenal is coming off a 4-0 rout of Wigan, where they will now head on the road to face League One Mansfield. Manchester City beat Salford 2-0, and they will have the tougher task of heading on the road to St. James Park to take on Newcastle. Both teams will look to stay alive in that competition as well, as they are both in it.

Finally, there is the competition that will keep one of these teams’ hopes alive, the Carabao Cup. The two teams will square off at Wembley Stadium on March 22nd to secure eithers first trophy of the season. Now, will it go back to London, or will it head to Manchester? Only time will tell, but this will clearly end the hopes for the quadruple for one of these teams.

We’re in unspoken territory. We’re used to teams having chances to win trebles on some occasions, but this could be the first time in history that we see a team win four. Now the question is, will we?
