Mendoza does not plan to attend NFL Draft

Top quarterback prospect Fernando Mendoza has decided he will not be present at the upcoming NFL Draft, according to a source. Instead of attending in person, Mendoza plans to experience the moment privately with his family in Miami.

The Las Vegas Raiders will almost definitely take him with the first overall pick after his incredible, standout season with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he won the Heisman Trophy and helped guide the team to a College Football Playoff national title.

He is also expected to meet with the Raiders in Las Vegas ahead of the draft as part of the evaluation process.

Mendoza would follow a recent pattern that has, in a sense, become a trend where top selections choose to stay home on draft night rather than attend. Players such as Travon Walker, Trevor Lawrence, Baker Mayfield, and Myles Garrett all made similar decisions within the last decade.

This year’s draft is scheduled to take place in Pittsburgh, with the opening round set for April 23.
