The newest AP college football poll is out. Following an insane Saturday which saw numerous upsets, everyone knew the next top 25 would look a little different. Here’s how your favorite college football teams stacked up in the newest AP top 25!
Top 10
To almost no one’s surprise, half the top 10 is from the SEC, but can you blame them? Texas A&M humiliated Mississippi St in the second half, and Oklahoma went down a spot after blowing out Kent St 44-0. Alabama has gotten their season back on track winning 4 straight and knocking Vanderbilt back to reality, and Georgia really gave Kentucky no chance in their matchup. But the top 3 are all Big 10 and ACC, and they have looked dominant. Ohio State hasn’t left any doubt that they are the number one team in the nation, but Miami looks just as good after dominating Florida State in a game they led at one point 28-3.
Oregon had a blast on their bye week, watching rival Penn State lose to a winless UCLA team that was so bad, it knocked Penn State all the way down from 7 to UNRANKED. Don’t worry Nittany Lion’s fans, Texas got booted all the way from 9 as well after losing to Florida. Texas Tech looks to surprise some people as they continue their hot start with a win over Houston, and Indiana under Curt Cignetti is itching to get back on the field after a bye week.
Movers in 11-20
There was a whole lot of movement by teams in the teens this week. LSU jumped up 2 spots without playing a game, as did Tennessee. Georgia Tech jumped 4 spots after continuing to win 2 straight following the upset over Clemson. Every other team (besides Vandy) jumped 5 spots in the rankings this week. From Missouri who had a bye week, to Virginia who won in overtime facing Louisville, everyone from 15 to 19 jumped up 5 spots in the rankings. Vanderbilt dropped 4 after their battle with Alabama this past Saturday.
New Faces? Saying goodbye to old ones?
From 21-25 we have a couple new teams jumping in with USF and Memphis after their blowout wins over Charlotte and Tulsa respectively. But Iowa State and Florida State are narrowly avoiding unranked for the first time since the season began (Iowa was preseason 22 and FSU jumped to 14 and as high as 7 after beating Alabama week 1). Iowa State lost in a shootout with a Cincinnati team who received some votes, and Florida State was simply no match for Miami.
College football is always unpredictable, and that is what makes it beautiful.
