After an unprecedented run with the USA women’s hockey team having 3 shutouts in all of their matches. The final stage was set against our rivals from up north, Canada. After facing them in the prelims with an astounding 6-0 win it seemed like they would repeat the exact same format and come out on top with an easy gold. Although this game would be different than the first time as the players took the ice and the game began. a tough battle back and forth and both teams fighting hard to score.
At the 2nd period the deadlock was finally broken….by Canada. USA’s clean sheet streak ended and with it the chance to secure gold as well or so we thought.
Canada continued to maintain the lead as the last few minutes of regular time was closing and then a miracle on ice with just 2 minutes left Hilary Knight scores and ties it up and takes us to overtime! Overtime starts and the US is hammering shots until the 4th minute of overtime happened and a goal was made by USA’s own Megan Keller to secure the win and most importantly the gold.

Congrats to the Women’s USA team, lets hope the men can follow suit, they have a semifinal match on Friday for a chance to get to the final and win gold as well.
