Why are teams refusing to play Texas Tech?

In this current era of college sports we’ve seen things we never would have imagined. Across the nation players are fighting for extra eligibility and more NIL checks. The latest player to make headlines in this fight is Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Sorsby started his career at Indiana and most recently played for Cincinnati. He was set to be Texas Tech’s new starting quarterback until a series of gambling instances became known.

Sorsby ultimately checked himself in somewhere to received help on this gambling addiction. Sorsby admitted to playing over 9,000 bets in his college career, wagering over $90,000. The biggest issue is that he’s admitted to placing bets on Indiana while he was a member of the team. After initially being ruled ineligible, Sorsby kept fighting and ultimately got his wish, to play college football again, there’s just one problem.

Nobody wants to play Texas Tech with Sorsby on the roster. Nebraska’s AD was the first to tell his staff not to schedule Texas Tech, with other Big 12 teams following that idea. The conference’s ADs and commissioner met on Tuesday to see what can be done going forward. But as of right now there’s a few Big 12 schools refusing to play Texas tech in ANY sports.

Betting and sports were always separated by a thick line in the past, one that was rarely crossed because athletes knew it could derail their career. Now here we stand, in an era of college sports where someone can admit to breaking the biggest rules in sports, and still be allowed to play.
