The 2026 NBA Finals are set, with the San Antonio Spurs taking on the New York Knicks in a matchup packed with storylines.
San Antonio returns to the Finals for the first time since 2014 after ending Oklahoma City’s bid for a second straight championship. Led by Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs have exceeded expectations despite entering the playoffs with a young core that had little postseason experience. Wembanyama averaged 24.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks against New York during the regular season and will need to be the difference-maker if the Spurs are to win another title.
The Knicks are back in the Finals for the first time since 1999 after dominating the Eastern Conference. New York has won 11 straight playoff games and owns an impressive 123.3 offensive rating this postseason. Jalen Brunson has led the way, averaging 26.9 points and 6.6 assists per game, while Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns have all played key roles during the team’s run.
New York won two of the three regular-season meetings between the teams, including a 114-89 victory in March. The Knicks’ defense caused problems for the Spurs throughout the season, but San Antonio enters the series with momentum after its dramatic Game 7 win over Oklahoma City.
The series will likely come down to whether the Knicks’ high-powered offense can solve Wembanyama and San Antonio’s defense, or if the Spurs’ superstar can take over on the biggest stage and lead his young team to a championship.
